Scientists create world’s first ‘molecular robot’ capable of building molecules

Happy Friday All!

Today I’d like to write two small articles. The first one is a short – but amazing – story around molecular robots. The second will be a bit longer, covering Blockchain applications.

At some point in the future, we can expect to be able to create objects from the ground-up, directly from component atoms, using tiny construction robots. Yes, really.

The University of Manchester has taken a bold step in this direction, with the world’s first ‘molecular robot’ that is capable of doing basic tasks, including building molecules!

I’m sure that the uses for this are currently very limited, but it’s simply incredible that we are building machines – at the size of only 150 atoms – that can do real, directed, work at the atomic level.
